Our Society is founded upon the
principle of Vitalism. This, simply, is the concept that the living body is greater than the sum of its
physical parts, that there is a greater energetic component that takes these
physical qualities and imbues them with a state called life. This is not a new concept. It assumes
is that there is a distinct energy or force that creates and sustains all living
organisms. This inherent vital principle is distinct from all the biological,
physical and chemical components of the body.
We call this the Life Force (Vital
Force). Failure to nurture and maintain this
force results in an internal imbalance that is called disease. The basic principle of vitalism is
that it is an inherent or in-born intelligence within the body, which animates and
heals living creatures. While this Vital Force has an innate intelligence as it
pertains to the sustenance and homeostasis of the body, it, in itself is not
sentient or intelligent in the way that we think of consciousness. It is more
reaction and instinct. As Dr. Samuel Hahnemann writes in his
Organon of the Medical Arts: In
the healthy condition of man, the spiritual vital force, the dynamis that
animates the material body, rules with unbounded sway, and maintains all the
parts of the organism in admirable, harmonious, vital operation, as regards both
sensations and functions, so that our indwelling, reason-gifted mind can freely
employ this living, healthy instrument for the higher purposes of our existence. It
is the un-swaying belief in this Vital Force that guides our lives in our
unending quest for health and higher fulfillment. Our lives are a constant quest for
true health and this healing is an on-going process of personal evolution and
growth. As we become more aware of our physical, emotional, mental and spiritual
self, we see ourselves more clearly. We begin to experience life and love in a
new and fuller way. We are on a constant journey of self-development and
self-discovery.
To succeed in this journey we need to recognize
that there are higher and deeper forces at work. To argue that we are nothing
but the sum of our physical and chemical components is to deny the existence of
higher plane of being. It is our firmly held belief that our lives and the lives
of our loved ones exist because of an animating force that dwells within our
physical form. This energetic force is the difference between the physical state
of life and that of death. |
